(oil and water on wood w/ steel bases)
18”h x 13”w x 7”d
This is a rare and unique piece that is both painting and sculpture. It is created from a raw tree trunk I was given that sat for years drying before I decided to saw into it. I gave my apprentice Jared the task as a way to aquaint him with traditional handsawing. After an hour or 2 we then discovered the form of a rabbit hidden within the grain. I brought out the figure further using a carefully layered applications of wood bleach.
Creating Within White Rabbit reminded me of how much of the creative process is about following an unsure, but persuasive hunch that leads you down a rabbit hole that may go very deep or seemingly nowhere. Either way, the process teaches you something of yourself regardless of the result.
This piece is finished and polished with a combination of oil and waterbased finishes. The bark is blackened and sealed for permanence. The steel bases give a subtle elevated lift to the composition and are padded with felt, allowing it to be placed on a wide variety of surfaces for display.
This piece is designed to inspire creative thought and spark conversations among your guests and colleagues gor many years to come.
I wonder where it will lead you?
