Monkwood began in a downtown Fullerton workshop in 2011 — a fine artist's hands turned to hardwood, mortise and tenon, and the slow discipline of building things meant to last a lifetime.

Brandon Monk Muñoz trained as a painter and sculptor at Otis College of Art and Design, spent years shaping worlds at Jim Henson's Creature Shop, and has been a woodworker since 1999. That range — fine art, fabrication, story — is what walks into every piece that leaves the studio.

We work in the spirit of wabi-sabi: nothing is precious, everything is used. Toast the first scratch. A Monkwood piece is not finished the day it ships. It is finished across the years you live with it.
